What is Jogjakarta Art Festival?
Jogjakarta Art Festival is art and culture event which is held in Jogjakarta every year. Usually, Jogjakarta Art Festival is held in June until July but in this 2014 this event is held in August to September, and Jogjakarta Government involved to conducts this event.
How is the history of this event?
Firstly, this event was held in 7 July 1989 in conjunction with official announcement of Monumen Yogya Kembali (Monument to the Recapture of Yogyakarta). In 1990, Jogjakarta Art Festival was held in Alun-Alun Utara Yogyakarta involving 29 group art parade, art exhibition with 200 paintings from 200 artists, art batik, open theaters in Alun-Alun Utara Yogyakarta was involving 57 groups consisting of a group of elementary school children, teens, classical dance, slap stick, keroncong (Dutch: krontjong) and kethoprak (theatrical genre of Java).
What is now in 26th Jogjakarta Art Festival?
There was opening ceremony of Jogjakarta Art Festival at 20th August 2014 in Tugu and Plasa Pasar Ngasem. There were approximately 8000 people who came to this crowd. A long with the opening ceremony of 26th Jogjakarta Art Festivalin Tugu district, in Plasa Ngasem Market, also held the inauguration ceremony of 26th Yogyakarta Arts Festivalin the presence of more than 5,000people.
This time, the theme of Jogjakarta Art Festival is“dodolan”which could mean it is time of Jogjakarta promoting its cultural richness. During this event, the city bursts with art and culture. Jogjakarta Art Festival also held in Bantul, Sleman, KulonProgo, and GunungKidul.
After the opening ceremony, serially the show is art market, workshop, visiting Taman Sari, Jogjakarta Soundscape 10 artists, and art stage with various artists. And, in 24 august 2014, there is Live Cooking Project “Remixing Nusantara”.
This event is about cooking challenge. 15 teams will be challenged to create works with new media, namely cooking/creating works with the spirit of "Cut and Remix" with variants unique cuisine.
This theme have the meaning that the results of the cultureis not just the result of an act of 'cut' and'mix' alone, but also include human active meaning, in practice merge back (processofremixing) signs in to a new arrangement or composition, including in this casethe eventsof cooking also seen as a phenomenon of"cut andre-mix". Participants are expected not to use ordinary materials, but can reveal the distinctiveness of materials, recipes, how to cook with different ingredients, recipes, how to cookin general (mainstream). Sounds very attracting, right?
